Links and
Resources
Here are some
links to sites that I like, or the owners of which I like, or that I think are jolly
worthwhile.
If you're after
links to the 'other side' of whip cracking, you'll want to see
my adult
links page. Spotty teenagers looking for naughty
pictures from those sites will be sorely disappointed, but some
of the sites do contain technical discussion of the safe use of
whips in SM, so responsible parents will probably wish to block it. Or look
at it once the kids are asleep. Anyway, the links below, on this
page, shouldn't be too offensive to anyone.
Online Forums
IndyGear.com
Has an active bullwhip forum for people with a particular interest in Indy
style bull whips.

whip crackers and Western Arts fans in our region. Open to anyone living in the London
area and South East England.
WhipCrackUK
The UK sport and performance whip cracking
online forum. A very friendly and quite active group hosted on yahoo, with members

States. Post photos, ask for advice from members, boast about your
new whip, vote in online polls etc etc.
Wild

cracking, knife throwing, trick roping etc. A mainly American
group with a few UK members.
Places To Practice
(not
all of these have websites)
British
Whip Cracking Convention- Watch this site for news of the
next convention. Whipcracking conventions are great places to learn the basics,
meet other whip crackers, show off your skills and learn new ones. A lot of fun
for all ages.
Croydon
Juggling Club - Meets
every Tuesday at around 8.00 - 8.15pm. Space is a bit tight for mixing unicyclists, jugglers and whip
crackers, so most whip cracking happens on the
green outside or on the stage. No refreshments, but the pub is opposite. Cost is £2 -
Family friendly (except the pub)
Dabhands Juggling Club (Bristol)
- Meets every Tuesday at 7.00pm, at Horfield Parish Church Hall,
Wellington Rd, Horfield, Bristol. Tea and coffee are on hand. Cost is
£3.00. A small club with a large hall, plenty of space for jugglers and whip
crackers. Main man with a whip is Ian - Family friendly
Glasgow

think, the organiser - Family friendly
Quirkus Juggling Club (Manchester) - Meets every

Whip Makers
Top tip: If you're in the UK
and thinking about ordering a whip from an overseas whip maker,
remember to figure in shipping costs, plus 17.5% Customs VAT on
both the price of the whip and the price of shipping, plus a
'brokerage' or 'clearance' fee from the delivery company -
currently (July 2006) £11 per parcel for UPS and £13.50 for Parcel Force.
You may also incur Import Duty, which is around 2.5%.
If you're a whip
maker and would like to exchange links, please email me: mailroom@whipstore.com.
In most cases, I'll be happy to reciprocate as long as I'm
familiar with your work.
Coyote Whips
I've seen nylon snake whips from a number of makers, and DT King's
3 footers are, in my view, easily the best I've used. Also, his 4, 5
and 6 foot nylon bullwhips are the dog's wotsits, being light and
incredibly easy to crack and aim; with an action similar to a
stock whip rather than your typical bullwhip; but you'll have
to email him 'cos you won't see the bullwhips on his website.
Other sites of
(possible) interest
Amazon:
Amazon is the best place to look for whip related books; but
it has grown to become so much more than an online
bookstore. These days, you can buy and rent videos and
DVD's, find tools (including a few of use to leather workers),
electrical appliances, and goodness knows what else; sell your
unwanted books and other items; even take part in auctions. If
you've never taken a look before, it's well worth visiting.
eBay.co.uk:
If you know what you're looking for, Ebay is a great place to
find whips and whip-related items. Joining is free. Follow
the link to sign up, or visit my weblog
to read my top tips on getting a bargain and see if
there are any auctions on at the moment that I think worth are
bidding on.
English
Whips weblog Keep up to date with what I'm up to, new products,
special offers, auctions I've spotted or articles I've written.
Paypal for
Business: I use Paypal for my payment buttons. It isn't
hugely user-friendly, but it did render my credit card terminal obsolete almost
overnight. You also get your money a lot faster than some other third-party
payment solutions. If you're thinking of selling online, it's worth thinking
about.
